Freshman Brian Barraza and senior Brittany Wallace were selected as the Male and Female Track Athletes of the Week, respectively, by American Athletic Conference officials.

The awards come just days after the two broke into the UH school record books at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. Barraza won the men’s 5000-meter run (championship section) with a time of 14:23.29, breaking the second school record this season. Wallace placed in the top 10 of the women’s 400-meter with a time of 53.25 to break the school record by .05 seconds.

There have been five school records broken this season, and Barraza broke two so far. During the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational, the freshman won the men’s 3000-meter, finishing at 8:16.84 to crush the school record.

Wallace has bounced back after suffering a season-ending injury last year. She sits on top of the American and was ranked No. 21 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Team Rankings this week.
