Houston junior John Horton finished eighth in the triple jump at the 2014 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships, and with a collegiate best jump he earned All-American honors.
Horton leaped a personal best of 15.97 m (52’-4.75”) while moving into first place after two attempts in his first flight. He dropped to third to finish out the first flight, but received three more attempts after waiting for the results of flight two.
Horton didn’t improve his mark, finishing the competition in eighth place. For the first time in his collegiate career, he achieved All-America first team honors.
