In one of its final tune-ups before American Athletic Conference play begins, UH traveled to San Antonio to take on UTSA. The Roadrunners ultimately prevailed 3-1, pushing the Cougars to 6-4 overall.
After dropping a very competitive first set 30-28, the Cougars fought back to win the next set 25-19. With the match tied 1-1, errors hurt the Cougar offense and UTSA took the third set 25-21 and went on to win the fourth set and match 25-12.
The news is not all bad — senior libero Natalie Keck added 12 digs in the match, moving into third place all-time in school history with 1,615 career digs. She is now only 300 behind second place Amanda Carson (2007-2010).
Houston was led offensively by senior Cortney Warren’s 18 kills and redshirt junior Kadi Kullerkann’s 17 kills, while sophomore Hunter Wise had 9 kills on her way to leading the Cougars in efficiency hitting .368.
The Cougars look to rebound Friday against UT-Pan American and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Gulf Cast for the Islanders Classic and open AAC play next weekend as they host Cincinnati at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 and Memphis at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28.
