It became apparent once again that the Cougars still have plenty of things to work out with the offense as they fell 17-12 to the Knights Thursday night.
The Cougars had a strong chance for a comeback win as their final drive brought them to the red zone with a five-point deficit and one minute left to play. Sophomore quarterback Greg Ward rushed the ball and, diving into the end zone, lost possession just before the line to turn possession over to the Knights.
With the mix of sophomore quarterbacks Greg Ward and John O’Korn, as well as multiple dropped passes from the Houston receiver core, the Cougars completed only 22 of their 43 passing attempts. O’Korn was then benched late in the third quarter after throwing two interceptions.
Junior kicker Kyle Bullard was Houston’s MVP Thursday night as he was not only the first Cougar to score, but the only Cougar to score. Bullard opened the game’s scoring in the first quarter as he put the ball through the uprights from 39 yards away.
Bullard continued to keep the Cougars in the game as three of his four field goals were over 40 yards, including a new career-high 51 yard field goal.
the censorious, puritanical clique over at coogfans will of course disagree, but ward should start and John O’Piland should be relegated to 3rd string.
It’s amazing how a team returning so many players from last year has actually regressed. Since it is fairly agreed to that this team has talent, my only conclusion is that it does not have the right coaching staff to show it off.
I am not surprised by the lose. It happens quite often here. What I am confused about is this big empty stadium that we are paying for? Why was UH staff asked to leave at 3pm? Who were they making “room” for? Why are we on ESPN with empty seats? So many questions..
fo to a different school gag
In he second half, the coaches put us in the position to win the game. This is a great positive.
Let me try to field goal my way through life. (Spoiler Alert: Won’t end up happily.)
