More than 21 local restaurants participated in the 30th annual Caesar Salad Competition at the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management Friday night.
There was an infectious buzz about the room as patrons savored classic and innovative spins on the staple salad. Attendees also had the chance to enter a wine raffle. The lucky winner took home 125 bottles of wine. Auctions for vacation packages to New Orleans and Hawaii were also held.
Their salads competed in four categories: Classic, Creative, Best Presentation and Consumer’s Choice Award. Proceeds from the event will go to the Food and Beverage Managers Association of Houston scholarships, which aid students at the Hilton College.
HRM students worked the event, which gave them experience and knowledge to take into the hospitality workforce.
“This helps students work with the hotels and chefs involved,” said Chris Benis, food and beverage director at the San Luis Resort in Galveston. “We are investing in our future workforce.”
