SGA approves resolution supporting UH medical school

The Student Government Association approved a resolution supporting SGAR-51003 “Support of UH Medical School” at their meeting on Wednesday.

The resolution states that SGA fully supports UH’s goal of establishing a medical school on campus. President Renu Khator stated in her Fall Address that she wanted to have established a fully accredited medical school by 2020.

In the state of Texas, there are only three universities with accredited medical schools: Baylor University, the University of Texas and Texas A&M University.

  • Congrats, SGA. Yet another useless resolution to mask lack of progress in anything. By the way, has anything been done regarding the parking situation?

      • I mean that the SGA should represent the interests of the current students, such as being able to park in places that they paid for without being inconvenienced by people who don’t attend the university and don’t pay for stadium parking passes. Why should students who pay thousands to not only park but attend the university have to be the ones having to shuttle themselves from downtown to campus on a Thursday game day? It’s ridiculous. Why has SGA not done anything to ameliorate that situation? Supporting a resolution for the establishment of a medical school absolutely does not show growth or determination for progress. If it is feasible and the university wants it (currently, only the latter is known to be true), a medical school would be established regardless of whether or not the SGA supports it. On the other hand, students will continue to be gouged for parking passes as long as the SGA permits TPAC and the university to allow athletics to trump academics.

      • A medical school would be established if the school wants it and if it is feasible, regardless of support from the SGA.
