The South Central Regional Championships are taking place Friday at noon in Fayetteville, Ark. and the Cougars’ cross country teams are ready to make a big showing.

The men’s cross country team recently took 3rd place overall at the American Athletic Conference Championships in Oklahoma, as sophomore Brian Barraza fell 10 seconds shy of 1st place with a time of 24:53 in the 8K race.

Freshman Blake Contreras and junior James Broussard followed suit — the two finished among the tournament’s top 15, enabling the three to earn All-AAC Team honors.

The women’s cross country team finished 6th in their respective showing at the AAC, led by freshman Ebony White’s 16th place 21:43 finish in the 6K race. Junior Selena Sierra also contributed with a 21st place finish of 21:57.

The Cougars’ men’s team finished 11th and women’s 15th last year at the South Central Regionals and both teams look to improve on those results on Friday.
