On Tuesday afternoon, the Shriner’s Hospital for Children announced that Houston senior defensive tackle Joey Mbu was selected to play in the 90th East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 17 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mbu has been a big part of the Cougars’ defensive success this season, currently riding a 22-game streak of consecutive starts with Houston. Mbu’s prominence in the Cougars’ lineup also earned him the role of 2014 team captain.
Mbu’s current career-best in tackles in a single season sits at 30, and he will enter this Saturday’s game with a tally of 27 tackles thus far. Mbu has set multiple career-bests so far, and he has totaled 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three broken-up passes and an interception to top it all off.
Mbu looks to keep the Cougars on track, and will entering his 23rd consecutive start as Houston faces off with Tulsa Saturday at 2 p.m. Every game from this point, through the rest of the season, will be crucial to the Cougars, as well as Mbu’s individual performance.
We are proud of you.
