The Houston women’s basketball team will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. on Friday.

The Cougars have started off their 2014-2015 season and the Ronald Hughey era with a 1-1 mark in regular season play after a blowout preseason exhibition win.

The Cougars fell 50-48 against the Incarnate Word Cardinals last week to move to their 1-1 mark, but still managed to put up strong individual numbers.

Junior guard Alecia Smith made four three-pointers to aid in reaching her team-leading 16 points in Monday’s loss, assisted by the 12 points scored by junior guard Jessieka Palmer. Smith now leads the Cougars as the team’s top scorer as she averages 13 points per game and is the only Cougar to score double-digit points in both regular season games.

The Cougars are 5-1 all-time against the Islanders coming off a 72-62 win from the last time they met in December of 2010.
