The inaugural season of the Tom Herman era will be a big indicator of the Cougars’ future success as they are set to face top contenders and past rivals next season after the 2015 football schedule was announced Thursday morning.
The Cougars are set to open their next season with four non-conference games, the first being a home matchup with the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, starting on Sept. 5. Houston then goes on to play former conference rival Louisville, Texas State and Tulsa.
With the upcoming changes to the American Athletic Conference, splitting into an east and west division, the Cougars will face off with some new competitors next year.
The Cougars will stand in the AAC’s West Division and start conference play against the SMU Mustangs at TDECU Stadium on Oct. 8.
Houston will have a 2014 BBVA Compass Bowl rematch as they are set to host Vanderbilt in their final non-conference game of the season on Halloween, the first meeting in Houston in the schools’ history.
The first AAC Championship on Dec. 5 will be played between the leaders of the East and West Divisions, as determined by final conference record.
