Houston has its cross-town rivalry back.

UH and Rice have agreed to resume the Bayou Bucket for a home-and-home series beginning in 2017, according to the Houston Chronicle.

An official message is expected to be released from the two schools Thursday, the Chronicle said.

The cross-town battle between the Cougars and the Rice Owls is set to start in TDECU Stadium in 2017 and the rivalry will continue with the second game at Rice.

The series took a short hiatus after UH joined the American Athletic Conference and a previously signed agreement ended. The Cougars currently hold the lead in the Bayou Bucket with a 29-11 advantage. The Cougars still own the bucket after with a 31-26 showing at Reliant Stadium in 2013.
