Women’s tennis head coach Patrick Sullivan has resigned from UH, according to UH Athletics on Thursday.

“Coach Sullivan resigned to pursue other opportunities last month and is no longer with the program,” said Assistant Director of Communications Rob Walden.

UH will now start the search to find their ninth head coach in program history.

Sullivan recently completed his third season at Houston following his departure from Stephen F. Austin State University.

In his time with the Cougars, Sullivan quickly brought Houston back to the national forefront in tennis, recording back-to-back 20-win seasons.

Sullivan also guided Houston to two of their four NCAA tournament berths and, in 2013, their first appearance since 1998.

Sullivan became the American Athletic Conference’s very first Coach of the Year recipient, after taking the Cougars to their highest national ranking in school history where they placed No. 21 in the nation, earning the top seed in the inaugural AAC Championship Tournament.

The Cougars were also able to record their first Top 25 ranking since 2006 under Sullivan.

Last season, the Cougars finished the season with a 21-6 record, and a perfect record in conference, claiming the regular season title.

Houston made a deep run into the AAC Championships, ultimately falling to Tulsa in the finals.

Last season, Houston posted 10 straight wins over ranked opponents leading up to their loss in the final.

The Cougars made it back to the NCAA Championships in the 2014-15 season, but were defeated in the first round by No. 33 Mississippi State.
