Cougars take sixth place in first tournament of season

Women’s golf wrapped up their first competition of the year this afternoon, as the team took sixth at the Minnesota Invitational.

The Cougars were led by sophomore Megan Thothong, who shot a 74 in her final round to take fifth place at the event.

The team posted a total score of 33 for the event, with four of the five members of the team finishing inside the top-30.

Senior Raegen Bremer and junior Emily Gilbreth finished the event tied for 15th, shooting nine over par for the event.

Sophomores Yuka Kajiki and Maddy Rayner finished tied for 30th and tied for 49th respectively, shooting 12 and 19 over par.

As a team, UH finished the event trailing champion Purdue University by 13 strokes, as Thothong finished seven strokes behind the singles champion.

The Cougars now prepare for their first three-day event of the season, the Mason Rudolph Championship.

They will tee off on Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., with hopes of claiming the tournament title.
