Entering the final day of competition at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, the Cougars men’s golf program trailed the leading University of North Texas. However, they were able to claim the title.
At the end of the second round, UH sat at 17 strokes over par as a team but picked up 11 strokes in the final round and pushed past UNT to win the team title.
Junior Matt Dunn, who was tied for second after Monday, claimed the individual title with a five under par score.
At the end the round, Dunn was tied for first, but he claimed the individual title on the second playoff hole.
Senior Blair Hamilton improved in his final round as well, moving up into a tie for fourth place. He was joined by redshirt freshman Matt Williams, both at 2 under par.
Five other Cougars finished inside the top 20 for the event, ranging from four to six over par.
In their second-to-last tournament of the fall season, the Cougars swept both the individual and team championships.
The Cougars will now prepare for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate tournament from Oct. 26 to 27, before wrapping up their season for winter break.
