The women’s basketball team is preparing to begin their season as they prepare to host Texas A&M International University on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars will see the court for the first time this season in its exhibition against the Dustdevils, marking it the second year of head coach Ronald Hughey’s tenure with the team.

The Cougars will be looking to improve on their 6-24 record from last season, where they earned just one conference win.

The team this season will be buoyed by experience, as the team has 10 upperclassmen on the roster.

The team also returns its entire starting line-up from last season, highlighted by senior forward Marche’ Amerson, who averaged 8.8 points per game last year and is close to breaking the 1,000-point mark in her career.

Fellow senior forward, Tyler Gilbert, led the team in the rebounding category last year with 6.2 per game, while also serving as a defensive stopper for the team.

The Cougars play host to the Dustdevils at Hofheinz Pavilion at 2 p.m., and admission is free to all.
