During his weekly radio show Tom Herman revealed that he received a letter from the Heisman Trophy Trust that said junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. is a candidate for the award.

Ward is also a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and the Maxwell Award.

Ward said earlier this week that it would be a blessing if he was considered for the Heisman Trophy.

“I think it would be very special,” Ward said in a news release. “It would be mind blowing because I would never think anything about it.”

Ward is the fourth player in UH history to be a candidate for the Heisman Trophy.

Former UH quarterbacks David Klingler, Case Keenum and Andre Ware were also candidates, but Ware is the only player in UH history to win Heisman Trophy in 1989.

Ward and the No. 24 Cougars are scheduled to face the No. 21 University of Memphis Tigers Saturday at TDECU Stadium.
