During his weekly radio show Tom Herman revealed that he received a letter from the Heisman Trophy Trust that said junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. is a candidate for the award.
Ward is also a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and the Maxwell Award.
Ward said earlier this week that it would be a blessing if he was considered for the Heisman Trophy.
“I think it would be very special,” Ward said in a news release. “It would be mind blowing because I would never think anything about it.”
Ward is the fourth player in UH history to be a candidate for the Heisman Trophy.
Former UH quarterbacks David Klingler, Case Keenum and Andre Ware were also candidates, but Ware is the only player in UH history to win Heisman Trophy in 1989.
Ward and the No. 24 Cougars are scheduled to face the No. 21 University of Memphis Tigers Saturday at TDECU Stadium.
Ward needs to blow Memphis’s doors off this weekend! Ward will need more than 200 yards in the air!
What poll are these rankings from?
CFP.
The only one that really matters.
Houston we have a new/real QB! Put ward back #WR
Ward has one slow game in an otherwise blowout season and you suggest putting him back in a position he clearly didn’t excel as well in?
That’s very shortsighted.
Let’s see how he does in the Bowl game…He’s not a real QB…He’s a HB! I’m a big time Case Keenum fan and Ward shouldn’t even be in the same conversation…Ahh he has more rushing TDs yes…Again he’s a HB!
