Man on the Street: What excites you most about the football team?

With the football team now off to a 5-0 start, excitement is beginning to build around campus. We asked students their thoughts on the team ahead of the matchup against the Naval Academy Midshipmen.

Technical management senior Benedict Willis:

“I like Tom Herman. I like what he’s doing with the team. He’s a good coach and he brings a lot of excitement. I definitely feel excited. The friends that I talk to also feel excited about the football team. Even people outside of alumni, people who just keep up with (the team), I hear some excitement.”

Kinesiology senior Marshall Anderson:

“I’m really excited just building off of last year’s team. I know it’s a new team but, we just built off that and I like what we’ve done and what we can continue to do, hopefully getting into a playoff, go undefeated. Definitely a New Year’s Six (bowl), I’m excited to be a part of that. Our defense has impressed me the most. That was my biggest concern since we lost a couple key guys from last year, but we got some new guys in here who really stepped up and just invested in us.”

Industrial engineering junior Vanessa Martinez:

“I am super excited that we’re still undefeated. Whenever I came here my freshman year I thought that football wasn’t going to be all that. But now I’m a junior and seeing that we beat OU, which I never thought we could, I’m super glad that we’re doing so good and I’m excited for the next game. Hopefully we continue to be undefeated throughout the season.”

Mechanical engineering sophomore Chad Glover:

“I think the season is good. Last season it was a little disappointing having one loss, but it was great at the same time. But this season, rolling out, Greg Ward Jr. leading our team and being undefeated so far, it’s really something good to watch. (What’s impressed me is) our ability to stay true to ourselves and not get too much into the hype about being the top six team in the nation. Just going out there and competing every week and getting the job done. I’m looking forward to the Louisville matchup. I know they lost a game already, but I still think it’s going to be one of the best games of the season.”

Kinesiology senior Anisa Royal:

“I think that we’re doing great this season. It’s really cool to see that they’re undefeated. So far, I like how the defense and offense are in sync so that we’re having an undefeated season.”
