Everyone is talking about men’s basketball going into this weekend, but three other Cougar sports teams are seeing action as well.

Softball

At 4 p.m. Friday, the Lady Cougars will face off against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers (3-14 overall) at home for the first game of a doubleheader. The Cougars will then turn around and play the Texas Southern Tigers (7-3 overall), who have won 4 straight, on Saturday at 12 p.m.

The Cougars (10-11 overall) have been on a roll as of late, winning 5 out of their last 6 games, including a 10-0 blowout against the Georgetown Hoyas (4-15 overall) on Tuesday. The Cougars are 4-0 all-time versus Prairie View and 15-1 all-time against Texas Southern.

Men’s Golf

The men’s golf team will travel to Laredo to compete in the Border Olympics at the Laredo Country Club on Friday and Saturday.

The lineup will feature junior Michael Perras, redshirt junior Papito Gonzalez, redshirt sophomore Matt Williams, senior Matt Scobie and sophomore Zach Tracy. Freshman Pryce Beshoorv and freshman Tony Gil will compete as well, but as individuals.

In the previous team tournament, the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, the Cougars finished in 11th place. The Cougars will face off against 18 other programs in a 54-hole tournament. The competition is scheduled to last all day for both days.

Women’s Golf

The women’s golf team will head to Tucson, AZ to participate in the MountainView Collegiate tournament from Friday through Sunday. The lineup will feature sophomore Leonie Harm, junior Allie Andersen, junior Megan Thothong, junior Courtney Tibiletti and redshirt senior Ivon Reijers.

The Cougars will go up against 12 other teams over the course of three days, playing 54 holes. Prior to this tournament, the Cougars hosted their first ever tournament against 16 teams and ended up with a 10th place finish.
