President and Chancellor Renu Khator approved  an intensive, full-depth pavement replacement of Cullen Boulevard between Elgin and Wheeler beginning in May at the proposal of the City of Houston.

Cullen Boulevard, a sore topic for many student drivers, will undergo the proposed renovations of over 76,000 square feet of road. The construction will be designed to last more than 10 years, according to the resolution that the Board of Regents passed in Monday’s special session meeting at the Hilton UH.

The city is proposing to renovate about 37.81 percent of the total area between Elgin and Wheeler.

  • This portion of Cullen should be completely repaved, not renovated. This is an entry to our university and a patchwork of repairs does not look impressive at all. This proposal should be rejected until a real solution is found. How can the student government be proclaiming a job well done? I could buy a bag of concrete myself and do these “renovations.”

  • Does “an intensive, full-depth pavement replacement of Cullen Boulevard” not meet your standards? Not really sure what more they could do.

  • The reason the are not completely repaving and tearing everything up is because one, it needs to be done in time for football season with the new stadium, and two, the master plan of the university has Cullen Blvd removed completely.

  • We could have found a better shot than that… parts of cullen have 6″ differences between lanes. We are talking third world driving conditions,
