Coming off a tough 67-61 loss against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats at home Saturday afternoon, the Cougar women’s basketball team is looking to get back on track as they travel to Orlando for a matchup against American Athletic Conference rival University of Central Florida on Tuesday night.

The Cougars (5-21, 1-14) are hoping to sweep the series against the Knights (6-21, 3-13).

In a previous matchup between the two teams at home on Feb. 3, a season-high 20 points from senior forward Marche’ Amerson paved the way for a 64-55 victory.

The Cougars have shown improvement in nearly all aspects of the game this year, scoring two points more and holding opponents to three points less per game compared to last season.

Amerson and freshman guard Serithia Hawkins lead the team offensively. Hawkins leads the team in both points and rebounds per game with 8.4 and 7.2 respectively. Amerson is second in points, averaging 7.8 per game, while shooting a team-high 35 percent from three-point distance.

Amerson has played her best against AAC foes, averaging a team-high 7.9 points per game and continuing to lead the team with 32.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The Knights enter Tuesday’s game following a 66-54 victory at home over Southern Methodist University on Saturday afternoon where three UCF players reached double-digit scoring; junior guard Zykira Lewis lead the way with 21 points.

The Cougars will look to exploit a Knights defense that ranks last in the AAC, giving up 73.2 points per game while being outscored by nearly 11 points per game.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at CFE Federal Credit Union Arena.
