News Real: Keep it private next time

A Katy Independent School District student’s display of affection landed her in some serious trouble, the Associated Press reported.

Shelby Sendelbach, a 12-year-old sixth grader, wrote "I Love Alex" with a blue marker in a school gymnasium. KISD decided the message was a Level 4 infraction, which is the same level for threats, drug possession and assault.

The school district decided to send Sendelbach to an alternative school from Aug. 27 through Dec. 21.

A school district representative said the school is just following state law, stating that graffiti mandates alternative schooling for the student.

KISD considers only murder, gun possession, sexual assault and arson more severe.
