News Real: Saved by the light

A cell phone’s light proved to be a useful tool in the operation room, Reuters reported.

Leonardo Molina, 29, was on the operating table undergoing an emergency appendix operation when the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina was suddenly plunged into darkness.

The light emitted from cell phones, of all things, was what allowed doctors to complete the surgery.

"The surgeons and anesthetists were in the dark. … A family member got some cell phones together from people in the hallway and took them in to provide light," a hospital spokesman said.

Ricardo Molina, 39, Leonardo’s brother, told a local newspaper that the lights were out for an hour while his brother’s anesthesia was wearing off.
