Khator begins ‘journey’

UH President and UH System Chancellor Renu Khator will officially begin her te rm in office by making appearances around campus, including visits with students, faculty and staff.

"It’s exciting to hang my ‘Open for business’ sign on the door, so to speak," Khator said in a release.

Khator was selected as the next president and chancellor in November by the UH System Board of Regents following the departure of former UH President and UH System Chancellor Jay Gogue, who accepted a presidency offer from Auburn University in March. A presidential search advisory committee was formed in May to select possible candidates.

"These will be the first few steps in a long journey, and I’m eager to get this under way," Khator said in a release.

Before arriving at UH, Khator was the provost at the University of South Florida and is the second female UH president after Marguerite Ross Barnett who took office in 1990 and died shortly after resigning for health reasons in 1992.

The campus tour will also include meetings with Vice President for Student Affairs Elwyn C. Lee and board chairman Welcome Wilson.
