SPB brings the beats to campus

The Student Program Board will sponsor several concerts this semester, beginning Wednesday, the organization said in its general meeting Monday.

Local rock quartet The Rising will perform from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the University Center Patio.

SPB concert chairman Sean Tarver described the band as "funk-rock."

He said that all UH students should attempt to come to as many SPB events as possible.

SPB is supported by UH student fees, which is all the more reason to be involved, Tarver, a Daily Cougar Opinion columnist, said.

SPB President Kevin Covington said the group holds a number of events for students throughout the semester.

"We do high-quality and diverse events… the best programs on campus," Covington said.

Broadcast journalism junior Brittany Osazuwa said she thinks the group needs to do a better job of promoting its activities.

"(They need to) do more activities during the times people are at school," Osazuwa said.

"This organization is fun," she said. "I’m an outgoing person and I like doing different things to challenge myself."

According to the SPB Web site, its purpose is to "program for every student on the UH campus, by staying connected and understanding our students’ wants and needs."
