Police warning: thief returns to UH

The UH Police Department is warning students, faculty and staff to be cautious with their belongings on campus.

"We wanted everyone to be on the lookout," Police Captain Brad Wigtil said.

KHOU reported Wednesday that Jeff Botley, 48, had been arrested by UHPD approximately 20 times during a 10- to 15-year range.

"For reasons I don’t quite understand… he comes back to campus," Wigtil said.

Wigtil also said that a security warning had been issued to faculty and staff Wednesday, so that faculty and staff are on the lookout.

"He is under a criminal trespass warning," Wigtil said, meaning that if spotted on campus, Botley will be arrested.

Wigtil said that Botley is non-confrontational and seeks unattended belongings in public.

"He looks for opportunities to get into open buildings… (and) offices," Wigtil said.

UHPD is also encouraging students, faculty and staff to call (713) 743-3333 if they notice any suspicious people or behavior.
