Austin Miller: So What made you want to go to UH?
Kayla Wohlschlegel: Well I live here in Houston and I’m married and I have a 5-year-old so I couldn’t exactly pick up and move my family somewhere else so I chose to come to UH. Plus I heard they had a really good communication program.
Miller: How long have you been married?
Wohlschlegel: Six years.
Miller: And you have a child?
Wohlschlegel: Yeah. She’s 5. Her name is Miranda.
Miller: So she started school as well?
Wohlschlegel: Yeah, this past Monday.
Miller: So she and mommy started school the same day, that’s cool.
Wohlschlegel: (Laughs)
Miller: Rock the Bayou is coming up. Are you a music fan?
Wohlschlegel: Yeah.
Miller: OK. What’s your favorite artist?
Wohlschlegel: I’ve always been a fan of Dave Mathews. I really like him.
Miller: Do you like other music from the ’60s and ’70s?
Wohlschlegel: Yeah, I also really like jazz. I like all kinds of music, but Dave Mathews is my favorite.
Miller: If you were the president of the United States, what would you do?
Wohlschlegel: The president …
Miller: What’s one thing you would change?
Wohlschlegel: I don’t know. I think I would just try to bring about peace. I just think everyone is so at odds with each other. You know election time is coming around and we have (Barack) Obama fans and then we have (John) McCain fans and they just don’t seem to work together.
Miller: I saw you were reading a book, what book was it?
Wohlschlegel: I am an English minor so… it’s William Butler Yeats. It’s a book of plays and some of his poems.
Miller: Is that a leisurely book or is it assigned?
Wohlschlegel: It’s assigned.
Miller: Do you like it so far?
Wohlschlegel: I do. I just started it though so I’m still reading the introduction.
Miller: Well you’re a full-time student and it sounds like a full-time mom, so if you had any free time what would you find yourself doing?
Wohlschlegel: Probably watch more TV, or go to the gym more often, or spend more quality family time with my daughter and my husband because we don’t do that as much as I would like for us to.
