Settegast influenced UH campus, health care

Donor and humanitarian Mary Katherine Settegast Haddock died Sunday at the age of 91.

Haddock’s family, along with medical benefactor Ben Taub, contributed to the donation of land for the establishment of the University of Houston.

After receiving her diploma from San Jacinto High School, Haddock graduated from the University of Texas.

During her lifetime, she served as co-coordinator for a vaccine inoculation program and worked to promote women’s initiatives for the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Haddock was a member of the Blue Bird Circle for 68 years, an organization of women volunteers that holds community charities to raise money for pediatric neurology and developmental neurogenetics.

Haddock’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Founders’ Chapel at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane at Sam Houston Tollway.

Contributions can be sent to the charity at Blue Bird Circle Clinic for Pediatric Neurology, 615 West Alabama St.
