Candidates for AD trims tofinal six

The search for a new athletics director appears to be getting clearer by the day.

The Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday that the list of six candidates now have names to go with them.

The first name to be made public was Akron’s Mack Rhoades, who has spent the last three years serving in the same capacity.

Joining him is Todd Stansbury, a former associate AD at UH before becoming the senior associate AD at Oregon.

Other names familiar to those in Houston are Steve Patterson, a former executive with the Rockets and Texans and former Lamar AD Mike O’Brien, Toledo’s top man since 2002.

Long Beach State AD Vic Cegles, who was AD at Temple from 2003-2006, is also a finalist.
Rounding out the group is current interim AD John Robinson Jr., a seven-year assistant under departed AD Dave Maggard.

Prior to joining Maggard’s staff Robinson was associate AD for seven years at Villanova, where he received his master’s in business administration.

He obtained his doctorate from Tulane University’s Law School. Robinson practiced law in Texas, where he is a member of the State Bar of Texas, before coming to UH.
