Cougars capture golf coach

UH has hired a proven winner to fill its men’s head golf coach vacancy, naming Texas A&M assistant coach Jonathan Dismuke to the position.

As far as winning goes, the Department of Athletics did not have to search far to find Dismuke’s last achievement, as he helped guide Texas A&M to a national championship in May.

He becomes the sixth coach in the program’s history and brings his own championship experience to a school that has 16 team national championships and eight individual titles to date.

Prior to his coaching career, which includes a stop at Mississippi as an assistant, Dismuke was a four-year letterman at Auburn. He was a member of the 2002 Auburn team that won the Southeastern Conference.

Before embarking on his coaching career, Dismuke received a bachelor’s degree in education from Auburn in 2005 .

Dismuke also played two years of professional golf on the NGA Hooters Tour, and earned the NGA Golf Achievement Award in 2005.

The hire is officially the first for Athletics Director Mack Rhoades.
