STYLE FILES: Siriano’s ‘fierce’ style always amazes

He is this generation’s Marc Jacobs.’

His flamboyant personality and immeasurable talent distinguished him in season four of the hit television series Project Runway. After week five of the show, there was no doubt that Christian Siriano would eventually take his rightful place in the fashion world.

Raised in Annapolis, Md., Siriano attended the American InterContinental University in London, where he interned with punk legend fashion designers Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.

His freshman collection last spring garnered him international stardom and further proved the sentiments of Tim Gunn – that Siriano is the next great American fashion designer.’

Siriano’s fall schedule is full. He will premiere a special holiday collaboration with Starbucks in November, and starting this month, Siriano will embark on a book tour for his style guide titled Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self.

Also coming to stores this fall is Siriano’s much-anticipated collaboration with Payless ShoeSource.’

Last December, he announced he would be designing a line of low-cost heels and handbags for the retail giant.’

The Egyptian-inspired footwear will be full of spikes, chains, and will have this season’s popular cone heel.’

Siriano’s color choices include deep brown in matte leather, patent chocolate, gold triangle for the heels, and aqua accents featuring prints resembling ancient hieroglyphics.

‘I was inspired by what I felt the modern Egyptian woman would want to wear,’ Siriano said to Marie Claire magazine.’ ‘It was my fantasy of Egyptian royalty from the sandstone temples and pyramids to the hieroglyphics. The architecture inspired the color palette of light sand, mocha, chocolate, and this amazing Persian green that really makes the shoes come alive!

‘We created a beautiful print based off an etching found in antique jewelry and I think it is one of the strongest pairs in the collection.”

Siriano couldn’t have been more thrilled to design a line for Payless.

‘When this project was first brought to me I was so excited and really felt it came at just the right time for me and my growing business,’ Siriano said. ‘I have a very fashion-forward and savvy customer but coming off a reality competition show my fan base is so much more than that. I really need something that was relatable to my younger fashion fan. It’s helping me grow in so many ways and reach such a huge customer base, which at the end of the day is all about sales and being a part of everyone’s closet!”

Siriano’s line is now available for purchase at www.payless.com or at any Payless store.’
