GUEST COMMENTARY: Parking situation needs quick improvement

This column is a response to the article ‘Parking Situation Should Improve’

I find it curious that the campus administration hasn’t been able to keep up with parking even though the student body has increased.’

It would seem to me that the more people you intend to have as students and customers, the more parking you strive to provide.’

This appears to not be the case with the administration, as stories from former students only highlight the fact that this has been an ongoing problem.

UH has had enough time and opportunities to fix this problem beyond adding satellite parking.’

It would seem to me that parking has been a problem generally ignored or put on the back burner in favor of higher-profile projects that make the campus look better.’

You have to make something work first, however, before you can make it look pretty. All of us pay hefty sums to attend UH, and we shouldn’t have to go off-campus in order to park.

It’s time to form a concrete plan and back it up with real action. The student body has been feeling the pain for years, and it has only become worse; there is no end in sight with the addition of more resident students.’

Pinning hopes on people carpooling, using the Metropolitan Transit Authority and parking off-campus isn’t action. It’s a prayer.
