LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Students disregard no-smoking areas on campus

I am curious to know if anyone else has noticed the blatant disregard of smoking regulations around some areas of campus.

People smoke near doorways and on porches, but the big thing on my mind is the number of people smoking outside of the University Center Satellite.

On days when the weather is nice, one often has to practically swim through a cloud of smoke just to get into the building, and enjoying the weather at the tables or benches is nearly impossible for those who want a smoke-free environment.

This has been a problem for a long time. I’m not sure when the ‘no smoking’ signs went up, but I’ve never seen any effort to curtail smoking on the part of UH.

I have no problem with people smoking where it’s allowed – that is their prerogative – but are these signs there for a reason, or are they just fluff?
