Wilson defeats Reyes in SGA presidential runoff

Student Government Association Vice President Prince Wilson defeated Carlos Reyes in this week’s presidential runoff election, having recording 56.6 percent of the votes when results were announced Friday.

Wilson, who replaces President Kenneth Fomunung, will take office Thursday.

Wilson and running mate Johnnie Jackson received votes from 1,118 of the 1,997 students who turned out for Wednesday and Thursday’s election, while Reyes, the SGA’s director of finance, and running mate Matthew Davis garnered 859 votes (43.4 percent).

In the general election, Wilson finished first among a pool of five candidates with 35 percent of the vote, and Reyes came in second with 24 percent. The race had to be sent to a runoff as neither candidate achieved a majority of the votes.

Four at-large senators were also elected this week. Andrea Gomez beat out Travis White for the At-Large No. 1 seat, Julian Jimenez prevailed over Dan Cato for the No. 2 seat, Andrew Jones squeaked out a win over Arsalan Razakazi for the third seat, and Karli Williams defeated Ehsan Hashmani for the fourth seat.
