Former Bauer dean dies at 58

Former dean of Bauer College of Business, Arthur Warga, died Sunday at the age of 58 after a five-year battle against brain cancer.

Warga, who served as dean from 2001 to March of 2011, helped Bauer achieve national ranking by bringing in faculty, creating new programs and establishing relationships with the local business community.

“Warga was a leading authority in his field, providing counsel to government organizations, financial institutions and the private sector on critical matters in banking and finance. His contributions in this arena are numerous,” said Provost John Antel in an email.

A memorial service for Warga is being planned for a later date.

“The accomplishments of Prof. Warga’s life and the grace with which he handled challenges are truly an inspiration — from his efforts to raise the profile of the Bauer College of Business to battling cancer — and he handled all this with professionalism and poise,” said UH President Renu Khator in a press release.
