When students support students, everybody wins

Even though temperatures are soaring and parking has never been worse, the school year is off to a great start. Students are coming out in droves; whether they’re moving into campus housing, trying to find the perfect schedule or just meeting new people, the University is invigorated by a new presence.

All of us at The Daily Cougar have high hopes that this new energy on campus will not dissipate as we continue our journey into the semester.

The best way to maintain it is for students to continue to make their presence known. There are so many cool things students can do on campus.

Those who are interested in art can check out the Blaffer Art Museum. Blaffer is a great place to experience the creative work of other students.

You will not be disappointed by the exhibits, as they are always of outstanding quality. UH is clearly home to talented and skilled artists.

Students can also come out to home games. Even if you don’t support the administration, support the students — they’re doing what you’re doing.

You’re investing time, money and your reputation by attending UH; why wouldn’t you care about what you’re investing in?

Sports at the University do not begin and end with football. Our basketball, softball and numerous other teams need support as well.

Imagine being an athlete with no one in the stands cheering you on. That’s the unfortunate reality for some of the talented and historic athletic programs at UH.

Students should also make an effort to show up to events hosted by the Moore’s School of Music.

It is rare for a day to go by without a concert of some sort being put on by the school. Students who attend these concerts will be impressed by the talented musicians.

One of the easiest ways students can show support for their fellow Cougars is by wearing red. This is one of the best ways to show school pride on and off campus.

Finally, take pride in where you are — that’s how we truly become Tier One.

  • poor athletes. i can't imagine not having a stadium full of people cheering for me cuz i'm running around with a ball. what about all of the intellectuals who have no stadium full of fans? like the debate team? why should we care so much about sports? because it's shoved down our throats? because it distracts us from more important things and is probably the most empty thing you can entertain yourself with? i'd rather watch a chimp pee in it's mouth.
the best way you can show UH pride is to tattoo UH on your face. why is no one doing this?

  • I agree with Brian. Football at UH is overrated and, if the school and its staff think that we're the best, why don't we schedule games against Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Alabama, etc etc. FCS schools do all the time so why can't we?

    Cause' we suck, that's why!
