Campus hot spot: Cougars relax in TV lounges
Since the start of the New University Center’s construction, students between classes have had to find different places to grab food, relax and host events. However, the UC Satellite is a great location for students and offers many restaurant choices, a game room and a convenience store.
The UC Satellite has become the place for student involvement during the week. Its location between the Science and Engineering Classroom Building and the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication is easily accessible for students. Organizations host bake sales, table products and more.
The UC Satellite does not just provide plenty of places for food and entertainment. It also furnishes lounges where students can relax or study between classes. Its two TV lounges are usually packed with students during the week.
“They’re convenient because they’re right by where you can get something to eat,” said psychology junior Kami Bohannon.
The lounges are small and fill up quickly, but those who are lucky enough to find a spot enjoy the quiet and secluded feel of the location.
Students who regularly relax in the lounges like the idea that they can get away from the bustling atmosphere but still have the convenience of food and fun if they want it.
“I like the TV lounges,” said biology freshman Alexandra Garcia. “Yeah, it’s crowded, but it’s a nice space for a place so small.”
Even though the UC Satellite has these lounges for student convenience, some students would rather go to other places on campus to study or relax and use the Satellite as a grab-and-go resource.
“I don’t come here to lounge; I come to get something to eat,” Bohannon said. “I’d rather go to the library to relax and study.”
No matter what the reason behind a student’s visit to the UC Satellite, this building can accommodate anyone. The Satellite is a location that continues to build more student life on campus.
