Head football coach Tony Levine rounded out his coaching staff for the 2014 season Wednesday with the hiring of Dan Hammerschmidt as the program’s running backs coach. The 28-year coaching veteran joins the program after serving two seasons as an offensive assistant for the Houston Texans.
“Dan has had success throughout his career, both on the collegiate and professional levels, and is a welcome addition to our staff,” Levine said. “He has the versatility to work with a number of offensive positions and brings great value to our staff. We look forward to him working with our running backs.”
With Hammerschmidt on staff, the Texans set a franchise record with 26 points per game in 2012, and seven offensive players earned Pro Bowl invites.
