For the first time since the U.S.Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association was created, UH cracked the top 25.
After one week of action, UH placed No. 24 in the USTFCCCA 2014 Indoor rankings after week one. Before making the top 25 this week, UH’s highest ranking was No. 28 in 2011 during week four.
Freshman sprinter Cameron Burrell, who was named American Athletic Conference track athlete of the week, helped propel UH into the indoor rankings by running the 60-meter dash in 6.55 seconds — the fastest time in the nation and a school record — at New Mexico’s Cherry & Silver Collegiate Invitational.
The Cougars have two sprinters, both underclassmen, who rank in the top 10 of the USTFCCCA rankings. Sophomore LeShon Collins ranks No. 6 to join Burrell, who placed No. 3.
