Maggio gets new position

After helping lead the first UH women’s golf team as a volunteer assistant coach during the recent fall season, Mary Michael Maggio was promoted to full-time assistant coach.

Maggio joined UH women’s golf in late August. In her new role, she will assist head coach Gerrod Chadwell in all areas, including recruiting, travel coordination and skill instruction.

In the fall season, she worked closely with junior Courtney Ferguson, sophomore Raegan Bremer and freshman Emily Gilberth as the trio competed as individuals at several events. Bremer finished in a tie for sixth at the Cardinal Cup in mid-September thanks to a final-round 70, while Bremer tied for 12th at the Sam Houston State/Harold Funston Invitational in the fall finale.

“We are pleased to have Mary Michael join our staff and the University of Houston in a full-time role,” Chadwell said. “She has been a leader for our young women on and off the course and has a bright future in this profession. As we prepare for the spring season and plan for the program’s future, I am excited to have her by my side every step of the way.”

“I am grateful to Mack Rhoades and Gerrod and the Houston athletics administration for another wonderful opportunity,” Maggio said. “I have learned so much from Gerrod and our young women during the last six months and can’t wait for the spring season to start.”
