UH reaches highest-ever national ranking

The Cougars were the biggest movers in this week’s rankings. They moved up to No. 30 in the country, according to the latest ITA tennis poll released on Tuesday.

The placing is the highest in school history, and UH is currently the highest ranked team in the American Athletic Conference.

“We’re off to a good start, but it’s a long season, and the only ranking that matters is the final one in May,” said assistant coach Stephanie Wooten. “Right now we’re not worried about any sort of ranking. We’re just focused on beating Texas on Friday.”

Vogasari recognized again

Freshman Despoina Vogasari earned her second consecutive conference weekly honor, being named American Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week.

Vogasari becomes the first player in school history to earn conference Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.

Vogasari native-posted a 2-0 record in singles action last week from the No. 1 position. She improved to 12-3 in singles play on the year and bolstered her dual match mark to 8-0 on the season.
