Former Cougar Chris Carter (2008-11) leaped into the national spotlight. He was crowned the men’s triple jump champion at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships last weekend.
His personal best mark of 17.15 meters (56’-3.25”) is now the second-best in the world.
“Winning the national title is a big accomplishment,” Carter said. “Going from three consecutive fourth-place finishes to a national title is a big relief and a sign of things to come.”
He outjumped his competition by six inches and will represent Team USA at the IAAF Indoor Worlds Championships from March 7 to 9 in Sopot, Poland. Carter represented Team USA at the 2011 Pan American games.
