The Cougars dominated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 4-0 to earn their school record-setting ninth shutout victory of the season Saturday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
For UH (18-4), the win marks its second straight shutout win, while the 18 wins on the season are its most since claiming 18 victories during the entire 2008-09 campaign.
“We knew coming in, this was going to be a dangerous match for us,” head coach Patrick Sullivan said. “Believe me, we hadn’t forgotten that they knocked us out of the national rankings at home a year ago, not to mention they’re even a tougher team at home with 20 MPH winds.
“Needless to say, I did lose a little bit of sleep scheduling an away match with what I knew would be a big vocal crowd against a team that is as tough as any in our region. We prepared well, and we were set for the task today. It was a fantastic match day atmosphere with a big vocal crowd pushing us to our limits on the majority of the courts.”
