UH has been awarded the top seed in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The conference postseason tournament will begin Thursday and will conclude Sunday in Tampa, Fla., with the winner of the event earning an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament and being named the league’s first champion.
The Cougars will go for their first postseason berth since 1998 as the tournament’s No. 1 seed, because UH is the highest nationally ranked squad (No. 27) in the conference heading into the event, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
UH will receive a first-round bye in the tournament. It will take on either eighth-seeded Cincinnati or ninth-seeded UConn at 8 a.m. Friday for a quarterfinal match-up. The Cougars defeated UConn 4-0 on March 8. They have yet to play Cincinnati this season.
If the Cougars advance Friday, they’ll take on either fourth-seeded seed Louisville or fifth-seeded Rutgers in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday.
UH has been placed as the highest-ranked team in the conference for seven straight weeks.
I didn’t know what sport you were talking about until the third paragraph.
