Junior college signee joins Cougars

Guard Eric Weary Jr. will join the UH men’s basketball program after signing a National Letter of Intent.

Weary measures 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds and will compete during the 2014-15 season as a junior. He chose UH over Oklahoma State, Penn State, Western Kentucky and Florida International.

“We are happy to welcome Eric to Houston basketball,” Sampson said. “He comes from a well-coached team and brings a combination of athleticism and shooting ability to our program.”

In 2013-14, Weary averaged 13.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists while helping lead Howard to a 24-8 record. In the opening game of the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament, he posted 27 points with 17 rebounds in a 98-91 win.  It was his second 20-point effort of the year and his 22nd game with at least 10 points under head coach Scott Raines.
