Gallery: Installation of new turf signals a near complete TDECU Stadium

Let the countdown begin.

With less than 45 days before UH opens TDECU Stadium, the football stadium’s interior is inching closer to the finished product. On Thursday, the Cougars’ synthetic turf, which will have both dark and light green turf that alternates every five yards was installed.

“When we designed TDECU Stadium we wanted a unique look and that carried over to the design of John  O’Quinn Field,” said Houston Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades in a statement. “With the west end zone, we wanted to match the stadium’s view of downtown Houston and remind everyone we are The University of Houston. Our east end zone highlights our secondary athletics Cougar logo while also giving a consistent look with the lanes of Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion.”

With the turf, lights and most of the $120 million project completed, almost all that’s left is football and fans.

The Cougars open play at TDECU Stadium in a non conference matchup against UTSA on Aug. 29.
