Who doesn’t love cake?
In celebration of National Philanthropy Day and National Bundt Cake Day, the M. D. Anderson Memorial Library will host a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday all over campus, including the M. D. Anderson Library lobby, the UC and the UC Satellite.
“It’s an opportunity to celebrate cake, raise money for a local charity, and inform students about cool or new services in the library they might not know about,” said UH Libraries System Head of Web Services Rachel Vacek.
Proceeds from the sale will go towards the Education Foundation of Harris County, a local organization that works to provide workshops that teach educators how to provide after school programs that focus on science, technology, engineering and math education. The foundation has reached over 800,000 primary school students in the Houston area.
“Since the UH Libraries work closely with many of Houston’s K through 12 public schools, and since we share common goals in helping students succeed, it seemed fitting to support this local organization,” Vacek said.
The M. D. Anderson Library is also hosting a raffle for three 10-inch pumpkin bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes, a local bakery that has been featured in Food and Wine Magazine and on the Food Network.
Bundt cake flavors include citrus, chocolate, vanilla bean and pumpkin spice. Other baked goods including cookies and brownies and other treats range from $1 to $3, and everything is made by M. D. Anderson Library staff.
“There are lots of amazing and talented bakers in the library, so campus is in for a real treat,” Vacek said.
