Crime Report: Jan. 19 to 26

The following is a partial report of campus crime that occurred between January 19 and 26. All information is selected from the files of the UH Department of Public Safety. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UH DPS at 713-743-3333 or [email protected].

January 19

Theft: A UH police officer noticed a cut bicycle lock at a bicycle rack where an unknown suspect was seen leaving the area on a bicycle at the Welcome Center student garage. The case is active pending new information.

Theft: A student reported his bicycle was stolen at the Welcome Center student garage. The case is active pending new information.

Theft: A student reported her secured bicycle stolen at Cougar Village 2. The case is active pending new information.

January 20

Theft/Credit or Debit Card Abuse: Two unaffiliated individuals reported their unsecured wallets stolen at the Baptist Student Ministry. Additionally, unauthorized transactions were made on their cards. The case is active pending new information.

January 21

Burglary of a building or habitation: A student at Cougar Village reported someone entered his room without authorization and stole two textbooks, a hard drive and other supplies. The case is active pending new information.

Theft/Credit or Debit Card Abuse: A student reported someone stole her unsecured wallet and made unauthorized charges on her cards. The case is active.

Theft: A student reported his unsecured bike stolen; the incident happened at the Cougar Village Grounds. The case is active, pending new information.

Robbery: A student reported being assaulted and robbed off campus, in the 5090 Calhoun block. The case is active.

January 23

Criminal Trespass: UHPD responded to a call of residents smelling marijuana at Cougar Village 2. However, the residents refused consent to search and received Student Life and Residential Life Referrals, while an unaffiliated individual was issued a criminal trespass warning. The case is active.

Fail to Yield Right of Way to Pedestrian: A student was struck by a vehicle on the crosswalk. The case is active.

January 25

Sexual Assault: A visitor reported being sexually assaulted by a UH student at the Bayou Oaks Apartments. The suspect has been identified. The case is active.

January 26

Robbery: A Wortham Theater employer said he was robbed of his cell phone as we walked to his vehicle at Wortham Drive. The case is active.

Aggravated Robbery: A student reported being robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men at the Cullen Oaks Garage. The case is active pending new information.

Disorderly Conduct: A staff member reported she was offended by two individuals using vulgar language, and that one of them made a verbal threat to the bus driver. The case is active pending new information.

Burglary of a Motor Vehicle: A student reported her secured vehicle stolen. The case is active pending new information.

Theft/Credit or Debit Card Abuse: A student reported the theft of her unsecured vehicle. In addition, there were unauthorized charges made on her debit card, which was in the vehicle. The case is active pending new information.

  • Sexual Assault(possibly including rape) and 3 Robberies(including two involving guns and hoodies). Great way to start the New Year at UH!

  • This is why we need to pass the bill allowing conceal carry on campus!

    Criminals don’t care about your safety! “Gun Free Zones” are a total joke…those signs read more like “Victim Target Zones” to criminals.

    Why must we give up our right to defend ourselves in order to get an education?
