The Cougars are currently enjoying a week-long break from competition after their last matchup Thursday against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane as they anticipate taking on the SMU Mustangs this Thursday.

The Cougars have been looking to turn around their struggle season this year as they picked up their first and only conference win against the defending national champion UConn Huskies to open the month of February. The upcoming matchup against the Mustangs will be key to the Cougars finishing the year strong, as only eight regular-season games remain.

The prior three meetings with the Mustangs have proven a big obstacle for the Cougars as they fell in all three games, totaling a deficit of only 11 points from last season’s losses, but a large 21-point defeat earlier this year.

The Cougars have things to look forward to, however, as they have shown strong signs in their recent games, holding the AAC-leading Golden Hurricane to just 57 points last week and taking down the crosstown rival Rice Owls before defeating the Huskies.

The common denominator in the positives from the past three games has been the location: Hofheinz. The Cougars finish their four-game homestead with Thursday’s game and look to walk away with a win before they hit the road for two Florida games.

The Cougars face off with the Mustangs at 8 p.m. Thursday, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
