Despite playing even in the second half, a fast-paced lights out shooting effort by Temple proved too much for the Cougars as they fell to the Owls on the road 60-72.
A 34-point Cougar first half on 48.1 percent shooting would be a solid lead on most nights, but the Owls would overcome and put up 46 on 69.2 percent shooting.
Despite trailing since the 15:47 mark in the first half, the Cougars cut the lead to 50-56 with 7:41 remaining in the game. Two quick Temple baskets put the Owls back up by double-digits and Houston would never get any closer.
Junior forward Tyler Gilbert and freshman guard Mariah Mitchell led the way offensively for the Cougars with 13 points each, while Gilbert added 3 blocks, giving her 57 for the season and one behind Valerie Muoneke for seventh most all time in a season in school history.
The Cougars finish up their road trip Tuesday, Feb. 16 with a game against the defending national champion UConn Huskies, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
