Austin-based developer Aspen Heights announced plans to develop new off-campus housing near UH, off the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Old Spanish Trail near MacGregor Park, according to the Houston Business Journal.
Aspen Heights has built student housing near universities such as Texas A&M University and Louisiana State University and is negotiating to buy the six-acre area of land needed to build the housing.
Specific details about the project, including the number of beds, were not given due to the pending sale of the land.
This announcement comes off a wave of increasing student housing on or near UH, including the construction of Cougar Village 1 and 2 and Calhoun Lofts, the renovation of Cougar Place and the construction of the Vue at McGregor, which experienced a number of construction issues earlier in the school year.
Grand Campus Living, the developers of the Vue at McGregor, are also in the planning stages of a new complex, Campus Vue, which will be located across the street from the Vue at McGregor.
